How to travel:

  • By road:  By bus or cab, it is 125 km from Mumbai(Dudhiware Khind Route or Kamshet route) and 60 km from Pune.

  • By train: From Mumbai, take a train Kamshet Railway Station  Pawna lake campsites are located at a distance of approx. 22km from there.

  • By air: No nearby airports, you have to take another vehicle from Mumbai or Pune.

  • Travelling by your own self is considered the best option here since that will make it easier to explore the surroundings.

Highlights of the trek:

  • Pavana Dam Reservoir is the main attraction of this artificial lake.

  • It is a great place for a weekend getaway, camping with friends and family.

  • It is safer than in many other areas, especially at night. Since there is a security team on the campsite.

  • Well connected with the national highway.

  • Fairly well in the terms of restrooms and food availability.

  • Accommodations for barbeque, clean tents and campfires are also available here.

  • Relatively cheaper trekking and camping costs in every area.

Pawna lake is best known for its picturesque and serene surroundings. It is among the best camping sites and easiest trekking trails near Mumbai, Pune, Thane and Navi Mumbai. The clean air and green grounds make it an ideal and popular place among people from all age groups. 

Although it is open throughout the year, during the seasons after the monsoon and till the winter, this route is pretty busy. For trekking, this season proves a bit difficult as compared to any other time. Here, the days experience a cool breeze while the nights turn a bit chilly, even more during the winters. Overall, the weather here is pleasant and the views are charming. But stay alert during the rainfalls, as Lonavala has some serious downpours at times.

Another best part of your journey to Pawana lake is the trekking places that are in close proximity to it! The best among them are:

  • Lohagad Fort

  • Visapur Fort

  • Tikona Fort

  • Tung Fort

For beginners, these places are good to start with their trekking. Apart from this, there are many other places to explore near Pawna Lake. Like forts, caves, and the local markets, that are highly attractive to tourists for their culture.

  • Pack light in summer- at most, keep a jacket with you. Warm clothes are only recommended during winters and monsoons.
